On Tuesday we were so excited to receive our certificates and medals for completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. Congratulations to all the children who were involved we can’t wait to do the challenge again next year!
In science we have been learning about water and how we can use it wisely. Today we had Kelly (Brayden’s mum) come in to speak with the R/1 classes about how she uses water in her florist shop and how she tries to reuse and recycle the water she uses. The children loved listening to and asking Kelly about her florist shop and what she does. Thank you for your time and for coming in to talk with us Kelly!
Today we had a visit from the CFS.
CFS stands for Country Fire Service.
We learnt about how to ‘get down low and go, go go!’ and also how to ‘stop, cover, drop and roll’ if there was a fire.
We also learnt that our house needs to have a fire alarm installed and what ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fires are.
Then we went to look at the fire truck and we all got a turn to hold the fire hose!
Thank you to all the volunteers from the Happy Valley Country Fire Service for their visit and all the work they do!
This week our class had the opportunity to visit the Nature Play Area on Campus. The children had a wonderful time exploring and playing in this area together. After our time in the Nature Play Area we visited a R/1 Thiele Class and shared one of the Book Week books together as our Book Week activity.
This week our Reception students have been talking about the story of their birth and of how they were welcomed into their family and into the Church family.
Some of the Reception girls shared photos and even brought in special items that were from when they were born or from their Baptism to share with the class. It was very special to talk about when we were babies and how much our families love and care for us.
Although Grandparents day isn’t until Week 8, we have started practising our item for the show!
We are so excited and have already been up on the stage to work out our places and to learn some of the actions!
We can’t wait to show all our Grandparents and Special Friends once we have it all ready!
Save the date and get excited because it’s going to be a great performance!
Our class has been learning and talking a lot about our country, Australia! Take a look at the maps we drew of Australia! We have also been learning about Aboriginal culture and have been viewing some Dreaming stories. The children have been very interested in learning about how to make a didgeridoo and also making their own birds as a response to reading the Dreaming story of ‘How the birds got their colours’. We are excited about participating in more NAIDOC week activities next week!
