Sharing Discussions

We have been really proud of all the children over the last two weeks as they have been sharing about ‘A Special Place’ with our class during our Sharing Time.
Take a look at our Sharing display we have in our classroom about all the ‘Special Places’ from R/1KB!
The next topics for weeks 4/5 is ‘talk about something that keeps you safe or healthy’. IMG_3251

Walking Water Science Experiment!

Today we did an experiment called “Walking Water!”
First we had 3 cups.
The first and the third cup was full of water.
The second cup was empty.
We put yellow food dye in the first cup and blue food dye in the third cup.
Then we folded some paper towel and put it in the cups.
We watched the coloured water ‘walk’ up the towel into the middle cup!
Can you guess what colour water ended up in the middle cup?
We also noticed that all the cups ended up with the same amount of water in them!
It was an amazing experiment!
We also did it with red and blue cups and also red and yellow cups.
Do you know what colours were made with these colours?

Welcome back to Term 2!

We have had a lovely start to Term 2 in R/1KB!
We have been especially excited about our new tables and chairs!
One of our new favourite activities is our ‘story table’. This week our focus story is ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We have enjoyed making houses for the little pigs using different materials.

Learning about Recycling

Yesterday we had Alex from Onkaparinga council visit our class to talk to us about recycling. Alex showed us three bins. Organic waste, recycling and general waste. We all learnt something new from Alex (I know I did!) and hopefully some of the kids have come home and shared with their parents some of the new things about recycling. We are going to continue to talk about how we can care for our environment so a really valuable exercise families could do at home would be to ensure the children know where their organic, recycling and general waste bins are located outside and inside at home and what they look like and for the children to practise putting the correct types of rubbish in each bin.

Day 2 – We have CHICKENS!!!

Today was VERY exciting here at school! When the children arrived at school this morning our first chick had hatched! The children we so excited to discover that these eggs were chicken eggs after their many ideas of what might be inside the eggs yesterday!
To make the day even more exciting, 4 more chicks hatched throughout the day while we were at school! We could see the eggs wobbling and the little chicks ‘pipping’ out of the egg shell. Two of the chicks have been moved out of the incubator and into the brooder box now.
I wonder how many chicks would have hatched by tomorrow morning? We will keep you posted!!!!

Giving During Lent

giving
We have been thinking about ‘praying’ and ‘giving’ during Lent. A BIG thank you to all the families who have brought in donations of clothing and food items for those less fortunate than us. We are still welcoming more donations so if your child hasn’t had a chance to donate something yet please feel free to bring them along to school.

Reception Maths – Writing Numbers 0-9!

In Maths the Reception students have been learning about how to write their numbers 0-9 correctly. Some of the activities we have been doing to practise writing our numbers have been writing numbers on the whiteboards, on the ‘gel’ packs, in the sand trays, using push pins on the cork boards and tracing. These activities are also helping to develop our fine motor skills and coordination. Check out some of our photos and remember to keep practising how to write these numbers correctly at home!!!!
