Learning about our Nativity Parish Church

Last Thursday, both of the R/1 classes met with Father Charles  to learn more about our Church. We looked at and pointed out some of the key features and symbols in our Church and learnt the names of many of the sacred objects and places in our Church. We thank Father Charles for taking the time to talk to us and for answering the many interesting questions we had about our Church. Here are some photos of  us exploring and learning more about ‘Our Nativity Church’.

Seeds!

We have been busy exploring seeds over the last few weeks. Our inquiry started when ‘Ernie’ left a mystery present for us that we found in the playground. We opened it up and discovered two small boxes inside…one for each class! Each class opened their box and wondered what was inside. Most of the children thought the boxes contained ‘Seeds’. We brainstormed what we thought the seeds would need and we took action…..you may have noticed a brown and a green plant box outside the R/1 BQ classroom (near the silver tables). Watch this space…….the children certainly are!!! We cant wait to see what these mystery seeds may or may not grow into.

As part of our Friday afternoon activity time in Week 2, both classes had the opportunity to plant their own broad bean seed which they have been watching and taking care of each day.

Look at these gardeners in action!

Exploring clouds

Our ‘Cloud jars’ on PhotoPeach

In Science we have been exploring ‘Weather’. This week we made our very own ‘Cloud jars’. We wanted to find out what happens to clouds when they become full and heavy. We had a lot of fun adding ‘water droplets’ to our clouds and observing what happened next……Rain!!!

Living Safely with Pets

Today we had a special visitor come to our school to talk to us about living safely with pets. Sarah talked to us about the safe way to approach dogs. We enjoyed listening to Sarah and meeting Sam the dog.

Campus Green Day this Friday

This Friday is our Campus Green day, which focus’ on the children getting involved in caring for our school environment. We will be adopting a garden area in which we will weed and mulch. Could all children please wear casual clothes to school this Friday 6th June, which are suitable for gardening. If possible, could they also bring a small bucket and gardening gloves if they have them (all named).

Thank you for your support!

Elsie’s play doh letters

In our Phonics lessons over the last 2 weeks, we have explored the Jolly phonics sounds and actions for Sa, Aa and Tt. In literacy groups this week, the children have been making these letters using Play doh. Some of our ‘oldies’ have also been using picture dictionaries to find words beginning with these letters and recording them.
